This class is a gentle form of yoga. You will practice yoga sitting in a chair or standing using the chair for support. Complicated maneuvers and complex movements are NOT present in this class. The chair is used due to the difficulty in getting down and up off the floor. You will learn many yoga postures, breathing techniques, meditation and ways of relaxation with the aid of a chair.

This class is designed to help you learn to relax and release areas of tension held in the body that cause stress. During deep relaxation, all the organ systems of the body are benefited, and a few of the measurable results of relaxation are the reduction of blood pressure and the improvement of immune function, as well as improvement in digestion, fertility, elimination and the reduction of muscle tension and generalized fatigue. Practicing surrender and receptivity. Slow it down for a nourishing and spacious practice. The intention of Yin Yoga is to safely and appropriately stress the connective tissue (ligaments, fascia and sometimes tendons) in the body rather then the muscles and cardiovascular system. Poses are held for at least 3 minutes to give the muscles a chance to relax allowing you to go deeper. This class is open to all levels and is a great compliment to a more active practice. For dads, grandparents and all other caretakers, classes are a great way to connect physically, emotionally, and spiritually with the babies in your lives!
QiGong is the ancient art and science of cultivating and balancing one’s life force energy or Qi (chee) for health, healing and well-being. This is done by combining posture with slow gentle flowing movements and stretches along with breathing, intention and visualization which leads you into a deep state of meditation. By calming the mind, QiGong allows you to increase stamina, balance, flexibility, vitality, relaxation, blood circulation, immune function and overall quality of life, then the natural self-healing ability of the body is activated and accelerated.
QiGong is the foundation of Chinese Medicine, art, philosophy, culture and the martial arts. It is sometimes called acupuncture without the needles, Chinese yoga or meditation in motion. Qigong is the medicine, while Tai chi is a martial art. Qigong has all, if not more benefit, than Acupuncture and Tai chi because it’s much simpler and easier to learn and can be done seated in a chair, standing or even lying down. If you have experienced a TBI (including concussion) or are a caregiver or support person, we invite you to join our yoga community! Through this program, we hope you discover your inner resources for learning, growing, healing, and thriving. Experience gentle yoga to improve strength and balance and meditation practices to reduce stress. Class themes will foster resilience and compassion. To create a culture of shared experiences related to TBI, our program is only open to the TBI community at this time. TBI is caused by a bump, blow, or jolt to the head, or penetrating head injury.
